Canada’s local lotteries are joining together to produce a national online gambling site, offering online players safe and regulated group of sites. According to the reports by Canwest News Service, the British Columbia Lottery Corporation is connecting with other Canadian Lotteries to allow online gambling access across the country. The company owned by the province, will join with the Atlantic Lottery and Loto-Quebec to offer Internet gaming over a standardized platform where players can play casino games online like casino online blackjack, slots and roulette.

Bob Rybak, a gambling consultant with the Atlantic Lottery, said he envisages the provinces that are not currently operating online casino games to join the project, giving Canada a unified system of Internet gambling. The new network would be available not only to computer users, but also through mobile phone applications. Gambling critics as usual have always a word or two to add and had to air their lack of education regarding problem gambling, and added that online gambling would bring a great danger of increased problem gambling to Canada, a country that is already suffering from this dreaded disease.

Shane Simpson categorically stated that there is no doubt that Internet gambling is problematic for those addicted to gambling, but some experts also agree with studies from Harvard Medical School which proves that online gambling is fare less likely to result in compulsive gambling. Rybak mentioned at a gaming conference in Montreal that Canadians spent almost a billion dollars a year on online casino gambling. Officials expressed concerns that online gambling would not properly protect children or gaming fanatics, but will be addressed through software, determining identity and location of players.
